Once the hose line has been recovered the crew leave the hose box and the retrieval unit is rehoused. The HVP Duo container module is demounted from the prime mover and the hose box is then closed up.

The Hydrosub pump module is remounted on the HVP Duo container which, in turn, is remounted on the prime mover thus completing the operation.

It only remains to be said that HVPs can be connected in series and the submersible pumps can be used as booster pumps to enable greater volumes of water to be moved over longer distances.

To see HVPUs in action during the floods of 2007, visit South Yorkshire Floods.

The high volume pumping unit is recognised by firefighters across the country as the most useful and practical apparatus to come out of the New Dimension programme. Perhaps its capablities have yet to be fully appreciated for regular firefighting but it is readily available for use in demanding situations. Urban search and rescue units have also been used to advantage but the other New Dimension appliances have not been put to the test in the same way, and hopefully they never will be. One can only hope that they too will prove their worth if the need arises.
