Following the serious flooding in South Yorkshire at the end of June 2007, on Sunday, 1st July Hampshire Fire & Rescue Service sent crews from Hythe, Hardley and Ringwood to Toll Bar, near Doncaster, with a pair of New Dimension prime movers carrying a high volume pumping unit and a hose laying unit.  This prompted well-known Hampshire-based writer and fire photographer, Simon N. Rowley of Fire-Aid International, to journey north to record the fire service involvement in flood relief operations.  What follows is his photographic account of the unceasing efforts of firefighters to bring some degree of normality to the area.

Toll Bar straddles the A19 Doncaster to Selby road and in excess of 90% of the village was flooded with depths up to waist deep. Simon's first priority was to find the Hampshire crews and, wearing their bright orange helmets, they stood out from the rest!
