Two used tankers were acquired for conversion into water carriers in 1977. This is a 1971 Leyland Laird (WKR 152J) which went on the run at Larkfield.

In 1974 the brigade bought secondhand a 1967 Ford D800 fuel tanker from Southend and converted it into a 1,900-gallon bulk foam carrier. The appliance (MHU 303F) was put on the run at Medway in 1976.

The other was a 1968 Bedford KM (MKL 109F) which was allocated to Ashford.
