By 1953 slam lockers had given way to roller shutters as seen here on Teynham’s PKN 541.

Rainham’s appliance (PKK 875) was one of the first with roller shutters. The pictures on this page were taken at the ‘B’ Division field day in about 1960. The divisional field day was an annual event of competition and display which guaranteed a gathering of appliances.

By 1952 the brigade was building up a fleet of B-type water tenders each with a 500gpm main pump. Most of these came from the HCB stable and the first examples had slam lockers, as seen on OKT 256 allocated to Horton Kirby.
