Complete Book List.

For many years Roger Mardon has maintained a keen interest in the fire service, particularly its vehicles, and former firefighter, John Meakins, is a trustee of the Kent Firefighting Museum. Both are life-long residents of Kent and their combined knowledge of firefighting history in the county is probably second to none. 128 pages and over 220 black & white photographs with informative captions, the earliest dating from 1860 and the latest from 2004, are used to trace the story of this fascinating subject. Pictures of fire engines, brigades, street scenes and architecture make this book a must for local people and historians, as well as fire service and vehicle enthusiasts.

The photographs are not just a record of the way the fire service has changed so dramatically over the years - they are also a part of the county’s wider social and economic history.
