In 1988 the first of three appliances bought for evaluation was acquired, this Volvo FL6.14 / HCB-Angus water tender ladder (F996 FKO) seen here at Maidstone. It remained in service until 2001.

The third evaluation machine was this 1991 DAF FA2500 DHS / Reynolds Boughton (H220 DKN). After two years, it was sold for service at the Atomic Weapons Establishment, Aldermaston.

The second was a 1989 Scania P92M (F999 MAR), the brigade’s first appliance by John Dennis Coachbuilders, seen here at Folkestone. It remained on the fleet as the only Scania pumping appliance until 2004.
