In 1985 Dennis stopped body-building and concentrated on chassis production. The separate company of John Dennis Coachbuilders built five appliances for Kent  in 1991 on the Dennis SS239 chassis. This is H199 FKP at Whitfield in 1996.

K822 SKE, seen here at Dover, is carrying a 10.5m ladder and was therefore designated as a water tender.

A further 20 Dennis SS239s were built by HCB-Angus in 1993 and K835 SKE is seen here at Aylesham. Carrying a 13.5m ladder, it was designated as a water tender ladder.
