In 1955 five Karrier Gamecock 72A / Carmichael appliances were purchased and this example (VKE 182) was on the run at Swanscombe. A sixth Gamecock was built for the brigade by HCB in 1959.

Nine of these Commer 21A / HCB appliances with 100-gal tanks were ordered as light pumping appliances in 1952 but were operated as pump salvage tenders. They are distinguished from the water tenders by a different locker arrangement. Note the early use of unpainted stucco aluminium body panels.

A  500gpm pump and 300-gal water tank were installed and the brigade designated these machines as L-type water tenders. The overall height was just 8ft 7in.
