Shortly after 08.00 hours on Sunday, 6 June 2004 Kent Fire & Rescue Service received a call to an explosion in Abbey Street, Faversham. Two terraced houses were completely destroyed and 22 others were damaged. There was only one casualty, an elderly woman who was taken to hospital and later reported to be in a stable condition in intensive care.

 

Ten pumps, with supporting appliances, attended and at the height of the incident 80 firefighters were at the scene, including the urban search and rescue team based at Maidstone.
