The Ministry of Defence was expected to procure refurbishment of the exisiting fleet of MFVs in 2006 when Carmichael unveiled the MFV 2. New features included a Caterpillar C-18 700bhp engine and Allison HD4800 automatic transmission, Cushmann power divider and Kessler W2500 transfer box.

Carmichael did win the refurbishment contract. The operational livery will be red, as seen here on this appliance at RAF Lyneham in August 2008.

The MFV 2 shown in yellow above, PB 23 AA, was allocated to the Defence Fire Training & Development Centre (DFTDC) Manston after it had been finished in the new livery of the Defence Fire & Rescue Service, which since 2007 has been part of the Defence Fire Risk Management Organisation.

DFTDC Manston is the new name for CTE (Central Training Establishment) Manston.
